Day 2 Thursday April 3rd Penzance to Rhosilli

The day was mainly spent travelling to our destination.  We awoke early, got ready, organised  and repacked before having a good breakfast at the Premier Inn.  The day began cloudy and overcast as we left on the 0840 Crosscountry train which was going all the way to Edinburgh.  We settled in and watched familiar scenery as crossed Cornwall and went across the Brunel bridge which connects Kernow to England. By this time the clouds were beginning to break and the sun was shining in places. We amused ourselves by browsing, snacking, blogging and general relaxing.  Travelling by train is always a pleasure for us especially when things go well and

on time. We travelled around the Devon coast, through Exeter and soon onto Bristol our only change in the journey..  We were assisted by a helpful staff member to change platforms and get to the correct position for when the train came in. We departed in the GWR train on time and soon went through the Severn tunnel and were in Wales.  After Newport we were experiencing new places for us.  At Cardiff a small school of special educational needs youngsters arrived in our carriage and it was good to see the way they were treated by the train staff.

We arrived at Swansea on time and by now the sun was shining with a blue sky. We had prepared the route to collect a hire car and we soon found the depot.  The formalities were soon completed and we took over a new Mercedes with only delivery mileage. This week is going to be an interesting one for us as I haven't driven on the mainland for 2 years but I felt confident I could cope on the quiet roads of the Gower.  The challenge was getting out of Swansea with it going smoothly including topping up with petrol.  We were soon at our destination at Rhosilli and having unpacked we enjoyed a pub meal  before retiring.
