Day 16 February 17th Wanganui to Wellington

We breakfasted, packed and were ready to leave Wanaganui by 1000.  It had rained a little overnight and the skies were still looking theatening but the temperature was 23.  We made it to the main highway and then the driving was easy.  The pasture was brown from the dry weather and there were a lot of cattle to feed and in some places irrigation was taking place.  We followed the pink Beetle for some time - it is worth magnifying to check the number plate.  It made us laugh and could be appropriate for the romantics out there.

It drizzled from time to time but was dry when we stopped for a coffee after an hour.  Eventually we came nearer the sea and there were marinas and harbours but with a stiff wind blowing it was not boating weather.

At about 1330 we approached Wellington and caught a glimpse of the Interislander ferry one of which we will catch on Friday.  The satnav found the hotel and we soon unloaded but had to wait to access the room and so had a stroll along the nearby harbour front.  We have arranged to meet Steph Moakes tomorrow and located the restaurant where we will have lunch.

We made our way back to the hotel, all was ready and we unpacked, relaxed and then went to for an early meal at a converted warehouse on the harbour front.   The decor inside included all sorts of lampshades - very quirky but they supplied a good meal.

It was raining when we left and we quickly made our way back to the hotel for the rest of the evening.
