Day 4 Gatwick to Bergen and beyond

We arose early as we had to be at the airport terminal by 0830.  We breakfasted, packed and caught the local bus at 0820 to arrive on time.  We found the check-in area and after a struggle completed the self-serve process including printing luggage labels and boarding passes.  We gladly deposited our large amount of luggage and made our way through to the departure area and had the wait until our gate was opened.  We boarded and the two hour flight went without incident.

Bergen and snow from the boat
Our clocks gained an hour during the flight. At Bergen airport we waited for the luggage and made our way to collect the designated bus for Hurtigruten.  There was snow on the ground around the roads and it felt chillier.  The bus departure point was not clearly

marked but we eventually joined others making the same trip.  The short bus ride took to the quayside and we made our way into the terminal building at

about 3pm.  There was a long queue to check in and we were told we would not be able to board until 4pm and get into our cabin until 6pm.  It was all a bit inefficient and disappointing but we just had to accept it and go with the flow!  There wasn't a chance to even get a cup of tea as the cafeteria was closed on
a Sunday.

We had hand sanitizer before going on board and it was obvious that every attempt was going to be made to keep a sterile atmosphere.  We settled in a lounge with a cup of tea and in due time we could go the cabin to unpack.   Dinner was an open sitting buffet which was very welcome as it was a long time since breakfast.  As expected fish was very much

The meal was good.  We had the mandatory safety talk and we went up on deck for the sailing at 2130, it was atmospheric as we left the harbour in the dark but we don't think it was as picturesque as the docking point we had left on our earlier trip from Bergen.

We were grateful to retire after quite a full day.
