Day 16 May 5th Seattle

Approaching the waterfront
Having arrived late last evening,
the bustling Farmers Market
we slept in a little and did not breakfast in the hotel until 0900.  The day was dry, bright, clear and fairly warm.  As we breakfasted we discussed the activities for the day.  We decided to seek advice from the information desk and decided initially to visit the
fresh fish
Farmer's Market on the waterfront which has a very
fresh fruit & veg
good reputation and then to go on the monorail to the Seattle Center where the space needle is.  By this time I had also completed most of yesterday's blog.  We headed with the aid of a map towards the waterfront and managed to
fresh flowers
find the market.  It lived up to expectations with all sorts of fresh food and craft products
the monorail
being on offer.  We spent sometime browsing the stalls.  Christine thought the flower stalls were better than the Amsterdam flower market we went to last September.  The whole market also rivalled the Granville Island market we visited in Vancouver in
Space Needle
2014.  It became time to move on and we found our way with some help to the monorail train station.

We bought tickets and were soon at the Seattle Center.  We initially went to
from Space Needle
an area where there were food and drink shops, we purchased some Starbucks and had a sit down coffee break.  Our next plan was to go up the Space Needle and we were soon being whizzed up to the viewing platform at about
hazy but Rockies in the background
700 feet.  There was some maintenance work going on but we were able to get views/pictures from all round.  We wandered around
looking down on the monorail
the rest of the area and found a memorial garden which included a chestnut tree planted from the seeds of the tree which Ann Frank could see from
memorial garden
her hiding place in Amsterdam.  We also found a fountain area where lots of families were having fun and there was quite a good rock band giving a
our hotel
concert in one corner.  We stayed here for some time and then decided to return to the hotel, we caught the monorail and the walked the remaining few yards.

We were back in time to make a cup of tea, finish yesterday's blog and have a little rest before thinking about dinner.  We decided to visit the fish restaurant which is part of the hotel and have enjoyed a nice meal including scallops which we hope came from the local market.

  1. Seattle looks like an interesting place and you found loads to do. The boys would enjoy the fountain in the park and the band sounds like they'd go down well on St Martins. Looking forward to more of your travel news ...
