Day 11 Rotorua

We have now moved on from the beautiful Coromandel area and have driven today to the geothermal centre of New Zealand at Rotorua.  The drive was pleasant although we did encounter some rain at one stage - we hope it did some good.  Our new accommodation is a lodge right on the edge of Lake Rotorua and we have a very nice view out of the patio door as you can see.  We are very pleased with this arrangement.

We then had a quick look around the town before finding a restaurant for a meal.  Rotorua has some old colonial parts as the sulphurous warm springs were thought to benefit many ailments and so their are several British looking buildings.  This one is now used as the TIC and is significantly better looking than the Scilly TIC!  Rotorua is also a centre of Maori culture and we hope to experience some of that tomorrow.  There is always plenty to do in these towns and we just don't have enough time to do all that we want to, perhaps it will be an excuse to come back again one day.

They have seaplanes that do tours which is very tempting and there is also a cable car ride.  We shall see what tomorrow brings.

I'm glad to see that the hotel shovel got put to good use and and you dug a sand pool to bath in!
Hope your both enjoying the adventure and as you say see what tomorrow brings and treat yourselves.

  3. The seaplanes are definately a must-do for Christine; the research would be invaluable to the council for the reintroduction of a sea-plane service to Tresco. (Put it on expenses!). What a brilliant holiday you're having. Love Val & Brenda XX.
