Day 9 Coromandel Peninsula

It's time to retrieve those atlases to find out where we are going!  We have now left Aukland and have headed west.  We took quite a long scenic drive today through some very beautiful country and coastline.  Our satnav is now working perfectly and proved its worth on this complicated journey.  To the west of Aukland we found some pretty coastline and this is Kawakawa Bay.

We then carried on to the town of Thames which is at the bottom of the peninsula and had some refreshment. This coastline is spectacular with small sandy coves, hilly backdrops and the odd steep high hill pass.  The terrain is dry as you can see because of literally no rain in the last two months (we could export some from Scilly!).  We stopped at various viewing points to take some of it in.

We skirted through the town of Caromandel and then after crossing the peninsula we threaded our way down to Hahei where we are staying the next two nights.  There are dozens of pictures we have taken and could show but i hope these give a flavour of the area.  The driving was on good roads but they were somewhat twisty at times but there was hardly any traffic.

Eventually we came to our destination - what seems like a very nice B & B in Hahei.  This is the view from the balcony we have.  It is a small community and the people are very friendly.
