Day 21 Christchurch

Here we are in Christchurch 3 miles from the centre without any transport.  Luckily some people staying at the same place are going into town and they have a car and give us a lift.  First off we decided to look at some of the destruction caused by the earthquake.  The cathedral is still being pulled down and where commercial building have been ruined a shopping arcade has been built out of shipping containers!

We then went for walk around the nearby botanical gardens which were interesting with plants growing stronger than in Scilly.  We had a snack in the garden cafe.

In the afternoon we took a bus to the New Zealand air force museum where there were a lot of planes and exhibits very well presented.  Here we see my favourite an original Spitfire.  We then bussed back into town for a meal and took another bus back to the accommodation.  The day was dry and slightly cooler than it has been for us but was still very good.
