Most of the day was spent on the long (200 miles) but
pleasant drive from Napier to Wellington.
They do not have many motorway standard roads and the maximum speed is
100kph. It took us about 4 hours and we
arrived at our hotel at about 2:15.
We checked in and I then went to drop off the car as we cross
to the South Island tomorrow morning and pick up another car there. The lady who checked the car in noticed that
my address was the Isles of Scilly and said that she had summer holidayed there
for 3 or 4 years in the early 80s!
I then walked back and we went to a Wellington harbour beach
called Oriental Bay. We actually had a
swim which is our first sea swim for several years – the water was quite cold
but not as cold as Scilly. There were
rowing boats out practising for next year’s gig championships but they have 8
rowers – must be different rules like the number of balls in a cricket
over in Australia. The weather today was probably
the best of our holiday so far and we enjoyed quite a long time on the
beach. Our hotel room overlooks the
harbour and gives an impressive view.
Very jealous of beach weather and swimming. When is Auntie Christine going to blog?! I'm sure my Mum is thinking this so I'm going to ask on her behalf - what's the food like?
